Gerald Benedict Rueter was born on November 25, 1952, to Julius and Marcelline (Scherer) Rueter in Sauk Centre. He grew up in Alexandria and during high school worked at Cenex and Withers in Osakis. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1970, and Alex Tech in 1972. Following his education, Jerry worked at Turbodyne in St. Cloud until 1978. He was united in marriage to Roxanne Landeen on July 19, 1975, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. They lived in St. Cloud before moving to Wahpeton, North Dakota in 1978. Jerry taught machine tooling at NDSCS for seven years before the family returned to Alexandria in 1985, where Jerry worked at Alex Extrusion until his retirement. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Carlos Fire Department, Carlos Lions, and Carlos Rod & Gun Club.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and passing the winter months snowmobiling locally and on numerous trips with family and friends. He enjoyed camping at Minnesota State Parks, visiting National Parks, and the memorable vacations to Belize, Italy, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, and Utah to name a few. Jerry would often be found on his garden tractor doing yardwork, working on some project around his home, or cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. He mostly loved spending time with family and was so proud of his granddaughters and their accomplishments. He was always willing to help someone in need and give back to his community.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernard and Eleanor Rueter and Math and Elizabeth Scherer; parents, Julius and Marcelline Rueter; and parents-in-law, Marvin and Deloris Landeen.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Roxanne; daughter, Kimberly (Jason) Taveirne of Alexandria; son, Michael (Sara Morse) Rueter of Portland, Oregon; sister, Judy (Bud) George of Minnetrista; brother, Bob (June) Rueter of St. Cloud; brother-in-law, Randy Landeen of North Branch; two grandchildren, Callie and Aleyna Taveirne of Alexandria; nieces, Sabrina (Josh) Kraemer of Richmond, Savannah (Trevor) Goodwin of Plymouth, and Ashley Landeen of North Branch; and nephews, Colin (Susan) Rueter of Wanamingo, Craig (Sarah) Rueter of Sauk Rapids, and Nick (Julia) George of San Francisco, California.

Urn bearers are Bob Rueter, Bud George, Randy Landeen, and Jason Taveirne. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Carlos Fire Department and Carlos Lions Club.
