Gerald "Jerry" L. Hanson

Gerald “Jerry” L. Hanson, age 82, of Parkers Prairie, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at his brother’s home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at Elmo Lutheran Church, rural Parkers Prairie with Rev. Ben Dyrhaug officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Gerald Louis was born on November 13, 1943, to Orvy and Alice (Faehnrich) Hanson in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized and confirmed at Elmo Lutheran Church, rural Parkers Prairie. Jerry attended country school and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1961. He continued his education at Alexandria Tech, where he earned a degree in carpentry. Following his education, Jerry enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he served as a cook in Fergus Falls. During this time, he worked in carpentry, straightening barns, and farmed alongside his father on the family farm in the Parkers Prairie area. Jerry continued farming for many years before retiring in 2020. Jerry was a lifelong member of Elmo Lutheran Church, where he also served as sexton of the cemetery for many years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a former FFA leader. Jerry enjoyed traveling on bus tours with Hart Travel and visiting local cafés to catch up with friends. He also had an interest in family genealogy and enjoyed researching his family history.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Mary Hanson of Parkers Prairie; two nieces, June DalSanto and Sheila (Kelly) Klimek; two great-nieces, Cassandra and Danielle; great-nephew Brandon; along with many cousins.

Urn bearers are Jerry’s family and friends.
