George was born on January 16, 1942, to George Sr. and Mabel (Nugent) Johnson in Minneapolis. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1960. After graduation, George began his career as a plumber before attending Dunwoody, eventually becoming a master plumber. He dedicated his working years to the plumbing trade, serving several companies in the Twin Cities. George retired in 1998, after more than 20 years with LeVahn Brothers Plumbing. He took great pride in his career and nearly 65-year membership with Plumbers Union Local #15. Following retirement, he moved to the Northwoods, having built his own home in Buyck. Throughout his life, George was rarely without a faithful canine companion by his side. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. George was a true jack-of-all-trades, helping friends and family, and enjoying several hobbies throughout his life. He loved building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, antique furniture restoration, leather working, watching NASCAR and more.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

George is survived by his brother, Steven (Brenda) Johnson of Maple Grove; sister, Bonnie (Donald) Biehl of Shoreview; longtime friend and companion, Bonnie Bietz; and five nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Moments Hospice and Pelican Bay Memory Care for the compassionate care and support they provided to George.
