Gary Doering

Gary L. Doering, age 67, of Alexandria, formerly of Parkers Prairie, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Jonathan Sorum officiating. Music will be provided by Kim Byrne. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Gary Lawrence Doering was born June 3, 1944, to Lawrence and Lorraine (Bowman) Doering in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. He grew up in Parkers Prairie, attended public school and graduated from the Parkers Prairie High School in 1962. He attended Wadena Technical School before moving to the Twin Cities where he worked at a candy factory. He returned to Parkers Prairie in the mid 1960's and worked on the extra gang for the Soo Railroad Line. He also worked as a carpenter and delivered newspapers for the Minneapolis Star Tribune in the Parkers Prairie and surrounding area for over 30 years. He started purchasing and fixing up homes in Alexandria and Parkers Prairie in 1990, and eventually owned and managed over 16 properties. Gary was very generous person. His generosity was felt by many, including charities and the 16 children he sponsored through the International Children's Fund. He enjoyed fixing up old vehicles and carpentry. In his earlier years, he drove stock car at Viking Speedways in Alexandria. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie.

Gary is survived by his two sisters, Vicki Moore of Parkers Prairie and Shirley (Mike) Maddox of Lester Prairie; two brothers, Marvin (Jenny) Doering of Parkers Prairie and Al (Kim) Doering of Brainerd; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, James; and his beloved cat, Midnight, who died in the spring of 2010, at the age of 21 years.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Doering, Jordan Doering, Bob Marweg, Ross Jahnke, Neil Maddox and Dale Maddox.
