Florence Jeanette Pomeranz, age 94, of Parkers Prairie, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank with Fr. Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Music is provided by the church choir and Kelly Martin. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Florence was born September 30, 1923, to Joseph and Mary (Cihlar) Chermak in Lowry. She was baptized at St. John Nepomuk Church and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria. The family moved to Alexandria and Florence attended and graduated from Alexandria Public Schools. She attended St. Cloud Business College for a year and returned to Alexandria where she worked at Gamble Robinson. She then worked for the Douglas County Courthouse for many years. Florence was united in marriage to Delmer Pomeranz on June 21, 1949, at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria. Following their marriage, they farmed for five years before they purchased the Urbank Locker Plant. Together they worked side by side for 45 years at the meat locker and raised their family in Urbank. Florence loved old time music and dancing was her favorite past time. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, road trips and trips to the casino. Delmer and Florence moved in to St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie in 2013. Florence was in her glory when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry Chermak and John Chermak; sisters, Frances Slaby and Lillian Johnson; and grandson-in-law, Jim Klimek.
Florence is survived by her husband of 68 years, Delmer; daughters, Gayle (Paul) Suchy of Evansville, Linda (John) Thoennes of Parkers Prairie and Deborah (Allen) Koep of Ramsey; son, Bryan Pomeranz of Fargo, North Dakota; 12 grandchildren, Jill (special friend, Rick Hart) Klimek, James (Kim) Suchy, Joel (Mary) Suchy, Janell (Luke) Kraemer, Jeremy (Kim) Thoennes, Jolene (Chris) Otto, Jonathan (Julie) Thoennes, Kyle Koep, Kraig (Nicole) Koep, Kari (James) Myhre, Tanner Pomeranz and Ava Pomeranz; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a brother, Adolph Chermak of St. Cloud; along with many other relatives.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, James Suchy, Joel Suchy, Jeremy Thoennes, Jonathan Thoennes, Kyle Koep, Kraig Koep and Tanner Pomeranz. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, great-grandchildren, and the Millerville Legion Auxiliary.
