Florence Irene (Lindgren) Henry, age 92, of Alexandria, formerly of Parkers Prairie, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at Douglas County Hospital, with family by her side after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Grant Aaseng officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Marcia Benson. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Florence was born July 16, 1919, in Grand Meadow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, to Nels and Ida (Johnson) Lindgren, the fourth of ten children. She graduated from Kingsley Iowa High School at the age of 16, and obtained her teaching certificate from Nebraska State Teachers College in Wayne, Nebraska. She taught in one room country schools for several years. She was united in marriage to Laurel Henry July 21, 1941, and they became the parents of four children. The family moved to Parkers Prairie in 1950, and farmed until Laurel's death in 1988. Florence moved to Alexandria in 1994, and most recently lived at Sharon's Senior Services. She loved to bake and was famous for her Christmas cookies, which she made a variety of up to 40 different recipes each year. She enjoyed being with family and traveled to Sweden twice to meet her relatives. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and was an avid Scrabble player.

Florence is survived by her children, Lee (Pat) Henry of Albert Lea, Stephen (Diane) Henry of Alexandria, Thomas (Dee) Henry of Parkers Prairie and Susan Carlson of Buffalo; brother, John Lindgren of Kingsley, Iowa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and eight siblings.

Pallbearers will be her family.
