Ethel Louise Lorine, 92, of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at St. William's Living Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Sorum officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Julie Lindgren, violinist, Kara Schillerstrom, vocalists, Brad Larson, Jim Larson and Jonathan Larson. Burial will take place at Compton Cemetery, rural Deer Creek.
The daughter of John and Elsie (Noreen) Larson, Ethel was born September 30, 1919 in Wadena, Minnesota. She was baptized at Wadena and confirmed at Compton Mission Church in rural Wadena in 1939. Ethel graduated from high school in Wadena in 1938. After graduation she worked at Engh's Grocery Store and worked as a dime store clerk in Wadena. She married her sweetheart, Vernon Lorine, on May 5, 1940. Throughout their 59 years of marriage, they lived in Wadena, Virginia, Grand Rapids and Nevis, Minnesota along with Prescott, Arizona and Billings, Montana where Vernon managed or they owned grocery stores. In 1953, they settled in Parkers Prairie where they purchased the Johnson Grocery Store and renamed it Lorine's Food Market until selling it and retiring in 1981. Ethel worked in the grocery store on a part-time basis and played piano and organ at church for many years, playing for many funerals, weddings, and other events. She also played for the church services and other events at St. William's while residing there. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Ethel especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and attending her grandchildren's concerts and ballgames. She also enjoyed music, church activities, cooking, baking, journaling, sewing, and making picture albums.
Ethel is survived by her two sons, Paul (Pixie) Lorine of Lino Lakes and Tom (Bev) Lorine of Clitherall; five daughters, Carol Scott of Katy, Texas, Patricia (Don) McHenry of Bozeman, Montana, Kathy (Marty) Schillerstrom of Monticello, Janice (Todd) Matthews of Plano, Texas and Pamela (Erik) Wenzel of Henning; three sisters, Alyce (Carroll) Thureen of International Falls, Marie Yatckoske of Roseville and Arlene (Harland) Nelson of Duluth; sister-in-law, Joan Larson of Ely; eight grandsons, David (Veronica) Lorine, Jr., Darrin Lorine, Junior (Margaret) Hunte, Dion (Roxy) Lorine, Matthew (Sarah) Schillerstrom, Michael (Kayla) Lorine, Ryan (Lara) Noetzelman and Aaron (friend, Jada) Noetzelman; seven granddaughters, Shari Mann, Heidi LeDain, Jamie Schultz, Kara (Todd) Mather, Michelle Matthews, Mary Jo Lorine and Mandy (David) Arvidson; four great-grandsons, 13 great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandy Lorine; and brothers, John Larson and Ben Larson.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
