Erna E. Klotz, age 92, formerly of Parkers Prairie, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 25, 2010, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home Chapel, Sauk Rapids with Rev. Donald Wilke officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Nancy Oswald. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Good Shepherd Nursing Home Chapel.

Erna Emilie was born July 8, 1918, to Julius and Ottillie (Reidel) Geger in Miltona, Minnesota. She was baptized on October 6, 1918, and confirmed in 1933, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. She completed the 8th grade. She was united in marriage to Arthur Klotz on December 5, 1942, in Chicago. Following their marriage they resided in Chicago until 1948, when they relocated to Parkers Prairie where they raised their family. Erna worked as a nurse's aide at St. William's Living Center and then at Bethany Home in Alexandria from 1969 to 1990, retiring at the age of 72. Following retirement, Erna continued volunteer work at Bethany Home. Following a lengthy absence from formal education, she and her husband finished their G.E.D. in 1983, at the age of 65. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, its Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and taught Sunday School, Release Time and Vacation Bible School. She was past president of the American Legion Post #219 Auxiliary. Erna moved to the Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids in 2002, where she led an exercise class, enjoyed all activities, especially BINGO and at the age of 90, began taking French and piano lessons. She became a member of the Church of Good Shepherd and its L.W.M.L.

She is survived by her children, Lola Rengstorf of Waite Park, Charles (Carol) Klotz of Roseau, Robert (Sandy) Klotz of Lincoln, Nebraska, William (Judy) Klotz of Park Rapids, Mary Stevens of Waite Park, Beverly Abraham of Carlos and David (Kim) Rosario of New Richmond, Wisconsin; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur in 1991; four brothers; four sisters; and a grandson.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Special thanks to the staff at Good Shepherd Nursing Home for all the care they gave our mom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Missouri Synod Lutheran Hour, Huntington's Disease Society of America, MN Chapter or ALS Association, MN Chapter.
