Elwood (Doc) James Beulke was born at home in Miltona Township on August 25, 1936, to Herman Jr. and Anna (Blank) Beulke. Elwood was Herman and Anna’s second son. He was baptized as an infant and in 1951, was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Trinity Lutheran) of Carlos. For most of his high school years, he lived and worked on his uncle and aunt’s farm in rural Miltona Township. This was the same farm that his father, Herman, was born and raised on. Elwood graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1955. Shortly thereafter he went to work for Uncle Sam in the US Army. Part of his two years of service was spent in Germany. When he returned home from the service, he found employment in the Twin Cities area. Elwood remained living there until he retired. At that time, he returned home to Carlos until he entered Pelican Bay in 2021. Elwood always looked forward to his hunting trips, including moose hunting in Canada, Elk hunting in Colorado and deer hunting in Miltona Township. He also enjoyed walking and meeting friends at Herby’s.
Elwood is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Jr and Anna Beulke; brother Elgene; and infant brothers, Joseph, Douglas, and Robert.
Elwood is survived by his brother Arnold (Linda) Beulke, Sturgis, South Dakota; nephews, Steve (Sandi) Beulke of Chaska and Adrain Beulke of Sturgis, South Dakota; nieces, Nadine Gannon of Victoria, Verlie (Jay) Sinning of Alexandria, and Shawn (Christopher) Koontz of Sturgis, South Dakota; 10 grand nieces and nephews; and three great-grand nieces and nephew.
A special thank you to all the staff of Pelican Bay, Adult Day Services, and Moments Hospice for all the love and care that they gave Elwood during the past four years.
