Elreen Frances was born on April 25, 1935, to Eugene and Mary (Pischke) Woida in Leaf Mountain Township. She was born into a large family of nine boys and two girls. Elreen attended the local Freske Country School near Inspiration Peak until the 8th grade, where she took 4th and 5th grades at the same time.
In her younger years, she helped on the family farm, assisted aunts who were having children, and spent some time with her sister in the Twin Cities before moving back to the Urbank area to marry her sweetheart, Harold Roers. Harold and Elreen were united in holy matrimony on September 7, 1955, and celebrated sixty plus years together before Harold passed. Together they had a large family of nine boys and three girls while farming on the dairy and hog farm just north of Urbank.
She was proud of her kids and always instilled in them “to be good”. While on the farm, she took on many responsibilities, including gardening, baking, cooking, and food preservation, along with the numerous other duties of a farmer’s wife. She also enjoyed dancing and attending neighborhood card parties.
Elreen was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank, and longtime member of the Christian Mothers and Inspiration Peak Legion Auxiliary. In retirement, she loved attending card clubs and birthday card parties that were developed in the neighborhood. Elreen also loved family card games, playing Scrabble, and hand stitched quilting, making special quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. After moving off the farm, she loved to travel to the area casinos, dancing, gardening, and tending to her many, many flowers. She especially enjoyed all the family events and activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; infant son, Charles; son, Peter; sister, Esther; brothers, Benedict, Eugene, Clifford, Richard, and Phillip; brothers-in-law, Bill Ryan, Leonard, Conrad and Mathias Roers, Urban Klimek, Norbert Klimek, and Hank Cihlar; sisters-in-law, Karola, Patricia, Shirley, Sharon Woida, Regina Klimek, Dorothy Cihlar, Loretta Klimek, Gertrude Roers, and Diane Roers.
Elreen is survived by her seven sons; Victor (Janine) Roers of Vining, Rory (June) Roers of Alexandria, Norman Roers of Parkers Prairie, Arnold (Andrea) Roers of Alexandria, Vincent (Kristi) Roers of Frazee, Bertram (Nadia) Roers of Maplewood, and Lewis (Jolene) Roers of Fergus Falls; three daughters, Ramona (Robert) Wippler of Parkers Prairie, Jennifer (Rick) Swenson, and Emily Roers both of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Perna (Ver Chow Roers) LeMier; twenty-four grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard (Kathy) Woida of Bloomington, Myron Woida of Millerville, Aloysius (Betty) Woida of Eagle Bend, and George (Eunice) Woida of Vining; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, ViAnn Roers of Alexandria, Adeline and Ronald Gust, and Rolland and Jennifer Roers both of the Twin Cities; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers are her sons. Honorary pallbearers are her daughters.
Elreen's children would like to thank the Douglas County Hospice team for their care and support during the journey we were on for the last months of Mom’s life.
