Elmer Precht

Elmer L. Precht, age 81, of Eagle Bend, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich. Burial will take place at the Hector City Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elmer Louis Precht was born April 28, 1932, to Alfred and Rose (Heller) Precht in Renville County, Minnesota. He was baptized at a rural country church near Hector where he grew up on the family farm. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. He attended country school and following his education helped his father farm, later transporting livestock. He attended basic training in St. Louis, Missouri and then was transferred to Fort Knox, Kentucky where he served in the U.S. Army from 1955, until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was united in marriage to Christine Disney February 24, 1957, in Clarksville, Indiana. Following their marriage they lived in Olivia where he continued driving truck. They lived in Fairfax for a short while where he worked at the Gibbon Elevator and Schokely Trucking. They purchased a farm in Olivia in 1970, where he farmed until moving to Eagle Bend in 1976. He farmed and hauled potatoes for Peterson Farms until his retirement in 2009. Elmer was the fortunate survivor of two separate train accidents. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling and trucking. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 56 years, Chris; two daughters, Deb (Jay) Reichert of Minnetrista and Audrey Klukken of Eagle Bend; son, Douglas (girlfriend, Amanda) Precht of Austin; two sisters, Caroline (Eugene) Lade of Buffalo Lake and Diane (Jim) Hemmingson of Sanborn; two brothers, Lester (Myrtle) Precht of Bird Island and Eugene (Renee) Precht of Hector; 13 grandchildren, Jason, Erik, Jennifer, Shawn, Christopher, Niki, Crystal, Elmer, Jr., Kody, Aspen, Dylan, Jake and Sam; three great-grandchildren, Ramo, Aaliyah and Autumn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; daughter, Judy; son, Butch; sister, Florence Nelson; brother-in-law, Bud Nelson; niece, Connie Nelson and son-in-law, Darwin Klukken.

Pallbearers are Erik Precht, Kody Precht, Christopher Klukken, Dylan Klukken, Jay Reichert and Bob Rurup. Honorary pallbearers are Jake Reichert and Sam Reichert.
