Ella J. H. Steidl, age 85, of Parkers Prairie, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie, with Fr. Jeremy Theis officiating. Music will be provided by Kim Byrne. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie, beginning with a prayer service at 5 p.m., followed by a rosary. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ella Jane-Hilda Steidl was born to Alfred and Elda (Zinter) Hartfiel at home on the farm on February 15, 1939, in Leaf Valley Township. She attended country school through the 8th grade and continued her education at Parkers Prairie High School. She married Timothy Steidl on October 29, 1958, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Together, they lived on the family homestead and had three children, Melinda, Gary, and Scott. After her husband’s death in 1984, she worked at St. William’s Living Center as a cook until her retirement in 2015. She enjoyed teaching her children how to cook and loved holding her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, and feeding the birds.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tim Steidl; son, Scott Steidl; and granddaughter, Mandy Schmidt.
She is survived by her son, Gary Steidl of Parkers Prairie; daughter, Melinda (Doug) Schmidt of Parkers Prairie; grandchildren, Derick Schmidt, Mindy (Jesse) Meissner, Monica (Nate) Stein, and Dustin Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Teagan, Trent, Theo Stein, Madelin, and Myles Meissner; and was looking forward to holding her great-grandson, Meissner, who is due in two weeks; sister, Vergene Hartfiel; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as casket bearers will be Gary Steidl, Doug Schmidt, Derick Schmidt, Dustin Schmidt, Nate Stein, and Jesse Meissner.
Honorary casket bearers will be her daughter, granddaughters, great-grandchildren, Vergene Hartfiel, Stan Dittberner, Lenny and LuAnn Steele, and all of her sisters-in-law.
