IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Betty" J.
Stroh-Ostlund
September 20, 1932 – February 15, 2026
Elizabeth “Betty” J. Stroh-Ostlund, age 93, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026, under the compassionate care of Woodcrest Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice. Betty lived 93 years filled with love, faith, hard work, and quiet strength.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria with Father Matthew Kuhn officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with a rosary, followed by parish prayers at 4:30 p.m., and will continue until 7 p.m. on Friday, February 27th, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Betty was born on September 20, 1932, in Leaf Valley, the youngest of 10 children to William and Minnie (Guenther) Shea. She attended country school in Leaf Valley until eighth grade and then graduated from Alexandria High School in 1950. Betty worked at Gamble Robinson in Alexandria as a bookkeeper for five years.
She married her first love, Martin Stroh, on June 6, 1955. Together they built a life on a dairy farm in Millerville, where long days were measured by seasons, faith, and family. They were blessed with seven children. She was busy as a wife and mother with cooking, gardening, canning and sewing. She could fillet Lake Aaron sunnies with the best of them. She was active in Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, and the VFW. She was a member of the Millerville American Legion Auxiliary Post 527 since 1964 and was recognized in 2022, to be the last living charter member. In 1987, they moved to Alexandria and Betty enjoyed working at Intrigue Clothing Store and working the food demos at Pete’s County Market following Martin’s death in 1988.
On October 23, 1992, Betty was blessed again with companionship, sharing lake life, travel, and simple joys with her second husband, Neil Ostlund. Together they enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. They loved to watch the Minnesota Twins and attended several games. Upon Neil’s death in 2021, Betty moved to Assisted Living.
She was a wonderful cook and baker, famous for her homemade bread, chokecherry jelly, scalloped potatoes and popovers. No one left her table hungry, and no one left her home without a hug and kiss. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. A devout Catholic, Betty lived her faith daily, loved by her grandchildren for ending the meal prayer with “God Bless Everyone”. Gentle in spirit yet delightfully sassy in her later years, she embraced life fully for 93 beautiful years.
Betty is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family. She was welcomed into Heaven by many dear loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Martin and Neil; parents; sons, Donald and Patrick; son-in-law Jerry; stepdaughter Laura; step-son-in-law Brian; sisters, Marguerite, Helen, and Loretta; and brothers, Al, Leo, Hubert and Phil.
Betty is survived by her children, Margaret (Jerry) Hebert, Julie (Don) Lundrigan, Teresa Terfehr, Willie Stroh, Nancy (Vernon) Hollar; step-daughter, Julie (friend David Kneeland) Rambow; daughters-in-law, Tammey Stroh and Michelle Stroh; brothers, Jim Shea and John (Nancy) Shea; brother-in-law Ben (Kathleen) Stroh; 14 grandchildren, Amanda, Mike, Melissa, Kari, Stephanie, Dawn, Bob, McKensie, Nicole, Grant, Alex, Rachel, Jake, and Adam; 20 great-grandchildren, Briauna, Rilynn, Avery, Emersyn, Zuri, Azlee, Hudson, Quinn, Frankie, Indie, Bridger, Annabelle, Jolie, Henry, Harrison, Maya, Harvey, Ava, Arlo, and August; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
