Duane W. Hanson, age 91, of Parkers Prairie, died on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2022, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Pastor Rachel Stout officiating. Music is provided by organist, Julie Lindgren and vocalist, Connie Birkholz. Duane’s service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on his obituary page on the funeral home’s website or by clicking HERE. Interment is at Elmo Lutheran Cemetery, rural Parkers Prairie.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Thursday, August 4, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Duane Wesley was born on November 14, 1930, to Oley and Rosa (Simonson) Hanson in Elmo Township. He was baptized on December 14, 1930, and confirmed on October 18, 1942, at Elmo Lutheran Church. Duane attended Country School #99 through the sixth grade and continued at Parkers Prairie High School where he graduated on May 18, 1948. He farmed his entire career on the Hanson Homestead raising dairy cattle, hogs, and chickens. Duane was united in marriage to Carol A. Tenney on October 20, 1956, at Elmo Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three daughters that they raised together on the farm. He was a lifetime member of Elmo Lutheran Church and was church council president and a member on the council for several years. Duane served on the Miltona Creamery and Pro Ag boards for many years, and was the secretary for the Almora Cheese Factory in the 1960’s.  He also served on the Parkers Prairie Joint Powers board and was Elmo Township Supervisor for over 30 years. Duane and Carol enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri; Washington D.C.; Calgary, Canada; Colorado; New York; Montana; and Yellowstone in Wyoming. They also spent many evenings dancing and playing cards. Most of all, Duane enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marian Downing, Norma Lukken, Lyla Lindrud, and Thelma Payne; and brothers, Orvy, Vernon, and Maynard Hanson.

Duane is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; three daughters, Nancy (Jeff) Long of Newton, Iowa, Pam (Terry) Henderson of Rogers, and Sherri (Scott) Jahnke of Maple Grove; six grandchildren, Brandon (Kayla) Henderson, Dr. Brit (Sarah) Long, Briana (Jared) Sanders, Amanda Henderson, Dr. Drew (Dr. Annie Chow) Long, and Kelsey (Bob) Bjornstad; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way in mid-August; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Terry Zimmerman, Arvid Hoppe, Tim Larson, Gary Olson, Bill Iverson, and Dick Haugdahl. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Hanson, Dan Hanson, Bruce Hanson, Dale Downing, Jim Lukken, Jeff Lukken, and Gene Payne.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. William’s Living Center and Hospice of Douglas County for their excellent care for Duane.
