Douglas Arthur Fish was born on May 26, 1943, in Warroad, Minnesota, to Ellsworth and Edith (Hathaway) Fish. As the eighth of nine children, he grew up on the family farm and attended Warroad Public Schools. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served both at Fort Hamilton, New York, and overseas until his honorable discharge in 1963. Returning to the family farm, Doug also worked at the family-owned gas station. It was during his time working at the Boise Cascade Papermill in International Falls that he met Shella Schrader whom he married on June 6, 1976, at the Justice of the Peace in International Falls. The couple settled in Loman and raised four children. In 1988, after Doug completed his GED and butchery education in Pipestone, the Fish family moved to Parkers Prairie. There, Doug worked at Festival Foods in Alexandria, then drove truck, accompanied by Shella, for Carlson Trucking in Parkers Prairie until their retirement in 2003. Post-retirement, Doug and Shella relocated to a farm north of Parkers Prairie. An avid hunter, Doug cherished time on the farm and working with his animals, but most of all, he loved being with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is preceded by his parents; brothers, Larry, Burt, Donald, and Howard; and sisters, Rachel, Janice, Ethel, and Evelyn; and infant great-granddaughters, Ava and Sylvi.

Doug is survived by his wife, Shella Fish of Vining; daughter, Roxanne (Jeffery) Jacobson of Ankeny, Iowa; sons, Greg Fish of Vining, Tony Fish of Vining, and Andy Fish of Vining; grandsons, Landon Fish, Wyatt Jacobson, Brayden Jacobson and Trent (Samantha) Jacobson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
