Doris L. Thompson, age 86, of Alexandria, died on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Alomere Health.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, July 10, 2026, at United Methodist Church in Alexandria with Rev. Amy VanValkenberg presiding. Interment will take place at Kinkead Cemetery.
The visitation is 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, July 9th, at United Methodist Church and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Doris Lucille was born on June 1, 1940, in Alexandria, to Thomas and Lucille (Johnson) Vickerman. She was baptized and confirmed in Alexandria where she also attended public school. Doris graduated from Central High School and then earned her medical secretary degree from the Minnesota School of Business. She was united in marriage to Don Noetzelman on June 18, 1960, and they were blessed with four children, Dawn, DeWayne, Todd, and Lane. Doris worked as a secretary followed by sales for KCMT (KCCO) Television for many years. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and was able to donate 400 homemade t-shirts for children in orphanages in Africa and Haiti. Doris was united in marriage to Roger Thompson on September 12, 2003, at United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Together, Roger and Doris enjoyed entertaining with their gift of music in area nursing homes for 17 years. She loved singing with the Sweet Adelines, needle-point crocheting and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, DeWayne Noetzelman; former husband, Don Noetzelman; brother, Tom Vickerman, Jr.; sister, Theresa Ohnstad; brother-in-law, Darwin Shinn; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Noetzelman.
Doris is survived by her husband of 22 years, Roger; daughter, Dawn (Greg) Kortuem of Young America; two sons, Todd (Cherie) Noetzelmann of Cave Creek, Arizona and Lane Noetzelman of Alexandria; three stepdaughters, Kirsten (John) Mahoney, Heidi (Craig) Keller, and Amanda (Wayne) Ramler; sister, Dorothy Shinn of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Pat Vickerman of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Charlie (Carly) Kortuem, Tom Kortuem, Ben (Whitney) Kortuem, Joey (Miatta) Kortuem, Jordan (Amanda) Noetzelman, Kelsey (Eric) Hernandez, Allie (Bennett) Black, and Eric (friend, Flora Kvale) Noetzelman; 10 step-grandchildren, Dylan, Brady, and Mikayla Mahoney, Nathan, Eleanor and Charles Keller, Madeline, Jakob, Anna and Isaac Ramler; 10 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Urnbearers will be her grandchildren.
