Dorene R. Ost, age 82, of Alexandria, formerly of Parkers Prairie, died Friday, February 17, 2017, at Alexandria Assisted Living.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at St. James Lutheran Church, South Effington with Rev. William Moeller officiating. Music is provided by organist, Vicki Schauland and soloist, Bonnie Lomen. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Monday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorene Renetta Ost was born on September 14, 1934, to George and Elsie (Mielke) Brockopp in Leaf Valley Township. She was baptized on October 14, 1934, and confirmed on July 6, 1947, both at Zion Lutheran Church, North Effington. Dorene attended school in Vining through the eighth grade and continued at Henning High School. Following her education, she worked at Hook’s Café in Parkers Prairie. Dorene was united in marriage to Marvin Frank Ost on November 11, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in North Effington. Following their marriage, they worked together on the farm as well as raising their four children. Dorene also worked at Knute Nelson before her husband, Marvin died on April 26, 1994. She continued to work at Knute Nelson after his death as well as Clearwater Assisted Living and Klothes Kloset until her retirement in January of 2012. Dorene spent the last four and a half years living at an assisted living due to her health. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. Dorene was also a former member of the Leaf Valley Auxillary. She enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, gardening, and sewing. Dorene especially enjoyed sucker fishing in the spring and working on the farm. She also loved spending time with family as she enjoyed playing and watching her grandchildren in sports. Dorene would always smile while watching her great-grandchildren play.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; brother, Delbert Brockopp; sister-in-law, Valeda Huwe; brothers-in-law, Ervin Witt, Kenneth Froemming, Donovan Ost, and Vernon Huwe.
Dorene is survived by her four children, Claudette (Pat) Bettin of Parkers Prairie, Denise (Doug) Reigle of West Bend, Wisconsin, Brent (Jody) Ost of Parkers Prairie, and Jodi Ost (Ernest Roder) of Breckenridge; seven grandchildren, Carla Bettin, Amber (Pete) Lauthen, Kyle (Megan) Bettin, Colin Reigle, Nathan Reigle (Erica Beck), Brad (Joelle) Ost, and Jake (Maari) Ost; five great-grandchildren, Jett and Rue Bettin, Isaac and Evan Lauthen, and Kellen Ost; two sisters, Darlene Witt and Dolloween (Jim) Hauer; three sisters-in-law, Delrose Froemming, Nancy Ost, and Margie Brockopp; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers are Kyle Bettin, Colin Reigle, Nathan Reigle, Brad Ost, Jacob Ost, and Pete Lauthen. Honorary pallbearers are Viola Freudenberg, Bill and R’lou Freudenberg, Glen and Bonnie Freudenberg, Ken and Ann Koep, Carla Bettin, and Amber Lauthen.
