Donald L. Looker, age 68, of Alexandria, formerly of Parkers Prairie, died Friday, May 28, 2010, of cancer while surrounded by his children.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Dean Swanson and vocalist, Dianne Pray. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.


Donald LeRoy Looker was born October 6, 1941, to Simon and Nina (Ward) Looker in Alexandria, Minnesota. He was raised in Parkers Prairie and moved to Duluth, Minnesota during his youth. He attended trade school in Duluth for architectural drafting before being drafted into the army. He was stationed in Alaska for three years during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he lived in Belwood, Illinois working his way from an attendant to a manager at a Holiday Station. He was united in marriage to Patricia Raap on September 21, 1968, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Following their marriage they returned to Minnesota where they raised five children. Don attended trade school for appliance repair and worked various jobs, mainly truck driving and carpentry, where he met a lot of people and made many friends. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, outdoor activities and games. He supported numerous local charities and non-profit organizations, including the Parkers Prairie Sportsmen. He was united in marriage to Joyce Nehk on May 21, 2010, at Sisseton, South Dakota.

Don is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Alexander of Eden Prairie and foreign exchange student, son, Nicki Kraenbuhl of Switzerland; four daughters, Rebecca (Gary) Yttrie, Veronica (Scott) Turchin, Miranda Looker (fiancee, Tammy Prokosch) of Parkers Prairie and Jessica (fiance, James Dahl) Looker of Frazee; step-son, Kenneth Dean (Melinda) Mrnak of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; step-daughter, Tina Vaughn of Ottertail; a sister, Nancy LaDean of Perham; the mother of his children, Patricia Rupert of Parkers Prairie; 13 grandchildren, Rodney, Angel, Brianna, Robin, Kristin, Carly, Jacqueline, Colin, Samantha, Brenden, Christian, Taryn and Eli; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Camron, Bayley and Jadon; and his two dogs, Tiny and Buddy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Arnold Timm; grandmother, Lily Looker; brother, Carl Looker; brother-in-law, Harold LaDean; niece, Sandy LaDean; great-niece, Jessica LaDean; and god-daughter, Pam (Looker) Bengston.

Honorary Urn Bearers will be Louis Nehk, Michelle Moske, Nathan Rolfes, Jeff Wark, Alan Sanvik and Doug Ostlund.
