Donald D. Becker, age 53, of rural Vining, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Triumph Hospital in Fargo.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank with Rev. Fr. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m., parish prayer service, followed by a rosary, Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donald Duane Becker was born June 8, 1958, to Casper and Viola (Turchin) Becker in Wadena, Minnesota. He grew up in the Vining/Urbank area, near Block Lake, and was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church. He attended Parkers Prairie Public Schools. Following his education, he worked with his father and brother, Russell in the fur and bait business. Following his father's death in 2001, Don and his brother continued the bait business. He was also co-owner of Big Foot Gas & Grocery in Vining for the past 12 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Donald is survived by his mother, Viola Becker of Urbank; brother, Russell Becker of Vining; two sisters, Renee Schmidt of Clitherall and Jolene (Wayne) Schwartz of Vining; two nieces, Julie Schmidt of Dalton and Cortney Schwartz of Vining; four nephews, Christian Schmidt of Urbank, Dylan, Adam and Aaron Schwartz of Vining; several great-nieces and great-nephews; along with many other relatives and friends.
Donald is preceded in death by his father, Casper.
Pallbearers will be Randy Turchin, Ronald Turchin, Richard Turchin, Adam Schwartz, Jim Nillson and Eddie Koep. Honorary pallbearers will be his neices and nephews.
