DuWayne R. "Dewey" Olstad, age 75, of Miltona, died Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, Minnesota with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Marilyn Erickson and vocalist, Deb Oelkers. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2012, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
DuWayne Robert "Dewey" Olstad was born July 10, 1937, to Bennie and Myrtle (Madsen) Olstad in Austin, Minnesota. He grew up in Hayfield where he attended public school and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1955. Following his education he worked at IBM for a short while before he started farming. He was united in marriage to Janet Plevka November 21, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. Following their marriage they continued to farm and live in Hayfield, where they also raised their family. In 1981, Dewey and Janet purchased a resort on Lake Miltona. They owned and operated Olstad Resort until they retired in 2002. Following retirement, they continued living on Lake Miltona. Dewey enjoyed hunting, woodworking, fishing and shooting. He was a faithful member of the daily coffee club at the Miltona Grocery Store. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. He was a member of Parkers Prairie Sportsman's Club and a former member of various sportsman's clubs in the Hayfield area.
Dewey is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet; a daughter, Dawn Olstad of Rochester; two sons, Jeff (Diane) Olstad of Spearfish, South Dakota and Jay Olstad of the Twin Cities; two sisters, Marlene (Clem) Hicks of Cottage Grove and Carolyn (Mike) Haspel of Brooklyn Park; two grandchildren, Jared Olstad and Jessica (fiancé, Aaron Meyers) Olstad; along with nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
