DeWayne Leo Brever, 75, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2016 in Alexandria.
DeWayne was born in Browerville to Gerhard and Julia (Drajna) Brever on May 14, 1941. He grew up on the family farm in Clarissa and graduated from Clarissa High School in 1959. He joined the United States Army and will receive full military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard, Alexandria American Legion Post #87, Alexandria VFW Post #936, and VVA Rifle Squad Chapter #235. DeWayne was united in marriage to Jeanie (Wegscheid) in 1964, together they raised four children. He worked for United Parcel Service for 32 years as a driver, manager, and customer service representative. He enjoyed hunting deer, moose, elk, geese, ducks--and had great stories of his wild boar experience. He was proud of the moose shot while in Canada and even more proud of his Boone & Crockett trophy buck. A true outdoorsman, DeWayne enjoyed spending time at the cabin, fishing, snowmobiling, cruising the lake on the pontoon, attending tractor pulls and showing his classic cars in parades and other events. He loved playing cards with friends--and teaching the grandkids to play. DeWayne enjoyed a morning cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast whenever possible. DeWayne was a kind, "no worries", compassionate man with a strong work ethic which he instilled in his children. His gentle spirit will be dearly missed.
DeWayne is survived by his four children, Kristi (Mike) Etzell of Greenbank, Washington, Joani Nielson (Andy Shriver) of Alexandria, Deb (David) Flynn of Watertown, and Gary (Jen Collins) of Alexandria, nine grandsons: Benjamin, Lucas & Nicholas Etzell, Chase Nielson and Brock Shriver, Sitka Corage Collins, Ivan, Elijah and Mathias Brever; three granddaughters, Alexis Nielson, Marisa Etzell and Maggi Flynn; brothers, Wallace (Joyce) of Long Prairie and Daryl (Karen) of Browerville; sister, Bernie (Richard) Meyer of Garner, Iowa, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard & Julia Brever; Gerhard's second wife, Martha; sister, Lois Brever Hanes, and brother-in-law, Richard Meyer.
