He was born on June 20, 1939, to Leonard and Jessamine (Diekow) Karger of Parkers Prairie. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Parkers Prairie. Dennis grew up a farm boy helping his parents on the family farm. He attended Parkers Prairie High School, where he played football and basketball, and graduated in 1957. He then furthered his education at Moorhead State College and then joined the work force. Following his “retirement” from banking and insurance, Dennis sold monuments for 20 years with the Fergus Falls Monument Company with his last sale this past August.

Donna Mae Husfeldt and Dennis joyously wed on December 9, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Deer Creek. They made their home in Parkers Prairie, and six years later had their daughter Kimberly, six years later, their son Kevin, was welcomed into the family. Memories of growing up with a kind and patient man will never be forgotten.

Dennis was a lifelong fisherman. As a young man, he would row his father out on the lake and fish together. Following his marriage, Dennis then took his wife and children fishing. As a beloved grandpa, some of his most cherished memories were taking his grandkids out fishing (regardless of whether or not they caught one.) This passion he has extended to all of his family, and his endless fish-based wisdom will be cherished and remembered.

Dennis was an active and passionate contributor to his community. He was president of the Parkers Prairie Lions Club, instrumental in getting the  Parkers Prairie swimming pool, as well as being involved in the start of the Parkers Prairie Fall Festival. Dennis and Donna were both honored as Grand Marshalls of the Parkers Prairie Fall Festival in 2024.

In addition to his work in the Lions Club, Dennis was also active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Having served as its church president for many years. He was an elder and served on the finance committee. He was also on Immanuel's Dartball team for over 50 years and has the trophies to prove it! He delighted in all things sport, but particularly favored dancing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Gescha Husfeldt; and brother-in-law, Merlin Hollatz.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Donna; two children, daughter, Kimberly (Kenneth) Thormodson of Miltona; son, Kevin (Tammy) Karger of St. Michael; three cherished grandchildren, Abigail Karger, Preston Karger and Jayden Karger; sister, Gloria Hollatz; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Urn bearers are Abigail Karger, Preston Karger, Jayden Karger, Myron Hollatz, and Mike Hollatz. Honorary urn bearers are the Immanuel Lutheran Dartball team and Parkers Prairie Lions Club.

Blessed be his memory.
