Delton V. Melzer, age 92, of Miltona, died on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue from 1-2 p.m., on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the funeral home.
A private graveside service will be held at Rose City Evangelical Free Cemetery.
Delton Vern was born on October 26, 1931, to Harry and Elsie (Beutler) Melzer in Esmond, North Dakota. His family moved to Rose City, Minnesota when he was just a small child. Delton attended country school in Rose City and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria. He farmed with his father until he was united in marriage to Majelle Anderson on July 20, 1953. Following their marriage, they purchased his wife’s family farm near Miltona where they raised their family. In addition to farming, Delton was self-employed in-home construction until retiring in 2012. He was a member of Rose City Free Church, where he served as a trustee, and a cemetery attendant for many years. Delton enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Sheryl; wife of 68 years, Majelle; brother, Merritt Melzer; and sister-in-law, Sonya Melzer.
Delton is survived by his son, Maynard (Deb) Melzer of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Sherlyn VanVickle of Maple Grove; brother, Eugene Melzer, Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law, Dorothy Melzer of Scottsdale, Arizona; granddaughters, Angela (Jeremiah James) VanVickle of Miltona, Kari Melzer of Austin, Texas, and Tifanny Melzer of Georgetown, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jeremiah James, Gene Carlson, Craig Evavold, Gary Dreger, David Dressler, and David Jones.
