Delmer F. Pomeranz, age 94, of Parkers Prairie, died Thursday, December 12, 2019, at St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank with Fr. Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Music is provided by organist, Paul Malecha and the church choir. Burial is at the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard and the Inspiration Peak American Legion Post #527.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. followed by a prayer service with Rev. Kirk Lee, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the St. Williams Living Center Chapel and from 6-8 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank. A visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Delmer Frederick was born September 18, 1925, to August and Rose (Kemnitz) Pomeranz in Garfield. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield. He completed his education through the 8th grade at country school in rural Garfield. When he was of age, Delmer enlisted in the United States Army; serving in WWII and stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Delmer was united in marriage to Florence Chermak on June 21, 1949, at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for five years. Delmer was employed by Roy Kraemer at the Parkers Meat Locker before purchasing the Urbank Locker Plant in 1958. Delmer and Florence worked side by side for 45 years at the locker plant and raised their family in Urbank. They moved into St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie in 2013. Delmer’s hobbies included dancing to polka, listening to old-time music, fishing, and gardening. Delmer was a charter member of the Urbank Lions Club, Alexandria VFW, and the Inspiration Peak American Legion Post #527.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence on March 6, 2018; brothers, Duwaine and Roy Lee; and grandson-in-law, Jim Klimek.
Delmer is survived by his three daughters, Gayle (Paul) Suchy of Evansville, Linda (John) Thoennes of Parkers Prairie and Deborah (Allen) Koep of Ramsey; son, Bryan Pomeranz of Fargo, North Dakota; 12 grandchildren, Jill (special friend, Rick Hart) Klimek, James (Kim) Suchy, Joel (Mary) Suchy, Janell (Luke) Kraemer, Jeremy (Kim) Thoennes, Jolene (Chris) Otto, Jonathan (Julie) Thoennes, Kyle Koep, Kraig (Nicole) Koep, Kari (James) Myhre, Tanner Pomeranz and Ava Pomeranz; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Olson and Patricia (Roger) Reents; and many other relatives.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, James Suchy, Joel Suchy, Jeremy Thoennes, Jonathan Thoennes, Kyle Koep, Kraig Koep and Tanner Pomeranz. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
