David J. Beyer

February 5, 1942 — September 15, 2026

Alexandria

David James Beyer, age 84, of Alexandria, Minnesota, died on September 15, 2026, in his home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Pastor David Fleener officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.

A visitation will take place from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Shalom Lutheran Church and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

David was born on February 5, 1942, in Morris, Minnesota, to Melvin A. and Dorothy (Buss) Beyer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He later moved to the Beyer family farm near Holloway, where he attended country school and graduated from Holloway High School.

David married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Hoffman, on August 1, 1959. They shared 67 wonderful years together. David and Barb began their married life in Minneapolis and later bought a home in Bloomington. They settled in Alexandria, where they made their home for 36 years. In prior years, they enjoyed spending winters in Florence, Arizona.

David was employed at Hitchcock & Sons, Continental Machines, and MTI before retiring from Brenton Engineering as a Senior Applications Engineer. He had been a member of the Lakeville Police Reserve and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and was part owner of Chaska Track & Wheel for several years.

David was a longtime member of Shalom Lutheran Church, where he plowed snow, mowed the grass, helped build the addition, served on committees, ushered, and always grilled chops at the annual barbecue.

He was an avid horseshoe pitcher, participating in league play and tournaments throughout the state and beyond. He and a partner won the local league tournament twice — twenty years apart. He also enjoyed camping, golfing, bowling, motorcycling, desert ATVing, billiards, and hunting, especially with his grandsons. He loved to fish in local lakes.

David was extremely proud of all of his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Dorothy Beyer; brother, Richard (Delores) Beyer; and brothers-in-law, Leland Arnold and Don Leuthardt.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Hoffman) Beyer; daughter, Brenda Kay (Brian) Lein of Prior Lake; grandsons, Andrew David (Marisa) Lein of Lauderdale , Zachary Allen (Susan) Lein of Prior Lake, Samuel Carl Lein of Prior Lake, and Lucas Robert Lein of Prior Lake; great-grandchildren, Rachael Alma Lein, John Carl Lein, Peter Herman Lein, and James Frank Lein, all of Prior Lake; sister, Sheila Leuthardt of Morris; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shalom Lutheran Church Building Fund or Love, Inc.
