Darold L. Jahnke, age 82, a resident of Parkers Prairie, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in North Effington Township with Rev. Dane Compton, Rev. Clark Jahnke and Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Marilyn Sibert and vocalist, Greg Wachter. Burial will take place at the church cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Darold Lester Jahnke was born June 9, 1927, to Gust W. and Emma (Jantzen) Jahnke at Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. He was baptized July 3, 1927, and confirmed September 3, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Effington. He grew up in Parkers Praire Township on the family farm. He attended Parkers Prairie Public Schools where he graduated from high school in 1945. Following his education he served in the U.S. Navy for two years. Following his honorable discharge he returned home. He was united in marriage to Norma Laabs on June 4, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church, North Effington. Following their marriage they farmed in Parkers Prairie Township for 40 years. He also worked at Pete's County Market in Alexandria for 14 years. He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Young People's Society, singing in the choir and serving as an Elder, Treasurer, Trustee and Financial Secretary. He also served on the regional board for Land O' Lakes. He will always be remembered for his love of family and the time he spent hitting baseballs to his children after supper and during milking.

Darold is survived by his wife, Norma; four sons, Michael (Debra) Jahnke of Parkers Prairie; Allan (Sue) Jahnke, Mark (Michele) Jahnke, James (Margee) Jahnke all of Alexandria; a daughter, Julie (Chris) Nelson of Minneapolis; two sisters, Delores Johnson of Alexandria and Alice (George) Legueri of Cloquet, Minnesota; two brothers, Ralph (Etta) Jahnke and Harland (Katie) Jahnke both of Parkers Prairie; seven grandchildren; five, great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Jay Jahnke, Ross Jahnke, Jesse Anderson, Jason Johnson, Jesse Johnson and Bruce Jahnke. Honorary pallbearers will be his grand children and great-grandchildren.
