Daniel "Dan" Drum

Daniel Dean Drum "Dan" 1957-2025 of Osakis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 23, 2025 under the care of Moments hospice and family.

Dan was born in Alexandria, MN on July 25, 1957, to Eldonna (Freitag) Genrich. Dans' immediate family included Phyllis Canfield of Spokane, WA; Gloria (Mike) Young of Carlos, MN; Debra Jung of Alexandria, MN; Duane Drum of Alexandria, MN. Dan graduated from Jefferson High School in 1976. In February 1977 Dan married Sharon Chapman and they had 4 children, Shane, Darren, Kyle and Robin and resided in Alexandria. In 1989 right after christmas the family moved north of Osakis to the "The Farm" where the family raised pigs, ducks, chickens, and geese. Dan and Sharon separated on fathers day 1991. Dan proceeded to work as a Farmer, caretaker of Lake Carlos Villa’s and Smokey Timbers Girl Scout Camp, delivered Star and Tribune on Saturday nights and two Green Sheet routes, and built yard Barns, During this time Dan became a truck driver, moving mobile homes across the country; this is when he met his long-distance "brother" Kelly Hatten of Craig, CO. Over the years Dan and Kelly put on many miles moving houses together and making memories and building a bond that neither distance or time could break.

In 1993 Dan met his forever love Jan Thull. Together they blended their families and raised their 6 children. As the years went on, the family made memories doing what they loved, camping, hunting and spending time at the lake. When Dan wasn't working over the road, you could always find him at home working in the garage or doing some sort of yard work. As the kids grew older, many of their friends found that Dan's house was the place to gather, and he welcomed everyone and treated them as family. Dan was known for his funny jokes, silly antics and hugs. One of Dan's greatest attributes was his love for family. Dan enjoyed hosting many occasions over the years; whether it was 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas or any reason to have everyone he loved together.

As his children grew older, Dan realized that working on the road and being away was no longer for him, and he got a job driving for Mark Lee Construction for the last 14 years. Everywhere Dan went he made friends and found those who cherished him. Whether it was daily check in calls to his buddies, or calling to catch up Dan was always thinking of others.

Dan will be missed by many, and he was loved by even more. He blessed our family with all the love anyone could ask for. Dan is survived by his partner Jan Thull of Carlos, MN ; his children Shane Drum of Evansville, MN; Darren (Kira) Drum of Aberdeen, SD; Kyle (Toni) Drum of Long Prairie, MN; Robin (Kyle) Hathaway of Long Prairie, MN; Karl Chapman of Hoffman, MN; Keith (Nikki) Chapman of Eagle Bend, MN; 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his 5th great grandchild due February 2026 which he loved each one with all of his heart. Dan is preceded in death by his Sister Debbie Jung, mother Eldonna Genrich, brother in-law Mike Young and previous spouse Sharon Drum.

Celebration of Life will be July 4th ,2026 at The Farm.
