Corine Thoennes, age 93, of Millerville, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at her home surrounded by family under the care of Hospice of Douglas County.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2025, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Millerville with Fr. Jeremy Theis officiating. Music is provided by organist, Paul Malecha and the Voices of Joy. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., prior to the service at the church.

Corine Agnes was born on November 11, 1931, to John and Cecelia (Thomas) Bettin in Millerville Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Seven Dolors Church in Millerville. Corine attended several country schools, as well as Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Parochial School, before graduating from Brandon High School. She was united in marriage to Matthew Thoennes on November 22, 1949, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Millerville. Together, they farmed in the Urbank area until 1995, when they built a new home on Lake Aaron near Millerville. Corine was an ambitious homemaker, seamstress, quilter, and cake decorator. Every family gathering was graced with one of her cakes, while quilts and doilies were gifts for many occasions. Corine was active in many religious and civic organizations. She held leadership roles in the Urbank and Millerville Christian Mothers, served as treasurer for Catholic United Council, and was president and secretary/treasurer of Millerville Senior Citizens. Additionally, she led St. Catherine’s and St. Theresa Mission Circles and was a member of the Millerville Legion Auxiliary. Beyond her community involvement, Corine shared her faith through teaching religion classes in Urbank and Millerville. Above all, she loved her large family and many extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matthew in 2020; parents-in-law, Mathias and Mathilda Thoennes; brothers, Ron (Marge) Bettin and Harry Bettin; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Dolores (Henry) Chermak, Bernice (Henry) Kalina, Audrey (George) Wilson, Mildred (Don) Bitzan, Anita Bettin, Norman (Ann) Thoennes, Lewis (Cyrilla) Thoennes, Christopher (Darlene) Thoennes, and George Courrier.

Corine is survived by her 11 children, Peggy (Joe) Grecula of Millerville, Don (Carol) Thoennes of Brandon, Dave (Elaine) Thoennes of Alexandria, Patrick (Gwen) Thoennes of Millerville, Fran (Diane) Thoennes of Garfield, Marianne (Gene) Burdick of Fridley, Sharon (David) Ditch of Pelican Rapids, Fred Thoennes, Julie (Gavin) Ahlbrecht both of Alexandria, Paul (Carmen) Thoennes of Millerville and Kristie (Glen) Noyes of Fergus Falls; 32 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Erma Bettin of Alexandria, Lucille Courrier of St. Cloud, Florence (Dave) Hvezda, Kathy (Gary) Thoennes both of Alexandria; brother, Clarence Bettin of Millerville; two sisters-in-law, Naomi Rodgers of St. Cloud and Marlene Bettin of Alabama; along with many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Adam Grecula, Josh Thoennes, Michael Larson, Daniel Ditch, Tom Noyes, Jordan Thoennes, and Justin Thoennes.
