Clarence Joseph was born on December 8, 1938, to William and Antonia (Cihlar) Wolters in Belle River Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Clarence attended school in Alexandria through the ninth grade, after which he began his lifelong work of farming alongside his family, eventually taking over the farm.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Notch on November 19, 1968, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Together they dairy farmed, although Clarence particularly enjoyed working with his tractors. After selling their cows, Clarence rented land and converted fields into Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land.
Following their retirement, Clarence and Ruth enjoyed taking road trips, with a special fondness for visiting casinos, drawn to the "lights and action." After Ruth passed away in 2009, Clarence remained on the farm until relocating to Alexandria a few years ago. He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; and siblings, Paul, Rita, and Joan.
Clarence is survived by his three children, Karen (Dale) Johnsen of Minnetonka, Douglas and Steven Wolters both of Spring Lake Park; two grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Johnsen; six siblings, Margaret Swanstrom and Clifford Wolters both of Alexandria, Catherine (Roger) Triebenboch of Osakis, Lucille Donnay of Wadena, Mary Jane (Bill) Schmitz of Alexandria, and Frances (Lee) Engelby of Dundas; along with many nieces and nephews.
