Bruce L. Hertzog, age 81, of Brandon, died of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of Douglas County.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon with Fr. Peter VanderWeyst presiding. Interment with full military honors will be at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Duluth.
Everyone is invited for lunch and a visitation at the conclusion of the service in the fellowship hall.
Bruce Leo Hertzog was born on July 17, 1941, to Mel and Mary Ann (Hiller) Hertzog in Hutchinson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith in Winsted where he was raised. Bruce attended and graduated from Winsted Parochial Schools. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Marines serving our country for four years while in Japan and Yuma, Arizona. He was united in marriage to Carol Fasching on October 21, 1961, in Winsted. Following his honorable discharge, they lived in St. Michael. Bruce worked as a warehouse supervisor for Ed Phillips and Sons in Minneapolis until he retired on August 8,1988. In 2000, Bruce and Carol made their home in Brandon. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, travel, reading and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Dale, David and Matty Hertzog.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; son, Shawn Hertzog of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Kim (John Sparks) Shepard of Lutsen; granddaughter, Savanna Shepard and bonus granddaughter, Isabella Sparks both of Lutsen; sisters, Mary (Roger) Fasching of Dayton and Julie (Steve) Millerbernd of Winsted; and brothers, Mel (Karen) Hertzog of Greybull, Wyoming, Frank Hertzog of St. Cloud, and Charlie (Becky) Hertzog of Waverly.
Memorials preferred to Hospice of Douglas County.
