Bruce L. Carter

Bruce L. Carter, age 77, of Carlos, peacefully passed into the loving arms of his Creator, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Alomere Health in Alexandria.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with Synod Authorized Minister Jewel Townsend presiding at St. Pauli Lutheran Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Bruce. was born on August 16, 1948, to Frank and Anne (Boyer) Carter in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. Bruce graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Christi R. Mathson on June 1, 1990, at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Bruce was the Director of Multicultural Affairs for Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington and South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was an enrolled member of Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, Belcourt, North Dakota. He was honorably discharged as a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors, camping, walking in the woods, exploring, and history adventures. Bruce especially enjoyed time with his family and his canine companion, Sophie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Isaac Eubanks; siblings; and brother-in-law, Clair.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christi Mathson-Carter of Carlos; daughter, Kelly L. (Jose) Carter-Martinez of Pasco, Washington; granddaughter, Alexis Anne Bahena of Pasco, Washington; great-granddaughter, Angel Martinez; mother-in-law, Inez Mathson of Thief River Falls; brothers-in-law, Brian Mathson, and Bruce (Shelley) Mathson; sister-in-law, Brenda (Jeff) Nielsen; and many other extended family members.
