Barbara M. Wenker, age 61, of Alexandria, died on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Alomere Health.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria with Father Matthew Kuhn presiding. Private family interment will take place at St. Eloi Cemetery, Ghent.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Barbara Mary was born on May 9, 1962, to George and Bertha (Timmerman) DeVlaeminck in Canby. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Barb attended St. Edwards Parochial School through the eighth grade and graduated from Minneota High School. While in high school, Barb worked as a CNA at the Minneota Nursing Home. She graduated from Canby Vo-Tech with a degree in office administration. Barb was united in marriage to Kenneth Wenker on April 4, 1981, at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Following their marriage, they were blessed with two daughters and lived in Ghent where she worked for Schwans from 1980 – 1991. In 1992, she and her family moved to Alexandria where Barb worked for Rural Cellular Corp from 1993-2009. She became a supervisor at Grand Arbor in 2011 until leaving in 2016, at which time she joined American Solutions for Business until retiring in April of 2023. She was a member of Church of St. Mary where she taught CCD for many years. Barb was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3063. She enjoyed stamp booking, card making, decorating, fishing, spending time in the sun, being outside, and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David; three brothers-in-law, Brian Gossen, Larry Goslar, LeRoy Hebrank, and Gene Julen.
Barb is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ken; two daughters, Aushara (Matt) Abdallah and Alyssia (Morgan) Foster both of Alexandria; brother, Ed (Sandy) DeVlaeminck of Ivanhoe; three sisters, Pat Hebrank of Minneota, Doreen Jelen of Canby, and Marge (Brian) Obe of Minneota; 11 grandchildren, Trevin Nuzum, Tristin Potter, Akirra Abdallah, Ivy Abdallah, Levi Abdallah, Araya Foster, Raylynn Foster, Iyris Foster, Hallye Foster, Meriyah Foster, and Sofiya Foster; five great-grandchildren, Mara, Sylas, Trenton, Leila, Emery, with two more on the way; along with many nieces and nephews.
Urnbearers are Trevin, Tristin, Ed, and Marge. Honorary urnbearers are her remaining grandchildren.
