Barbara Clara Potratz, a resident of Parkers Prairie, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie with Reverend Elton A. Hallauer officiating. Music will be provided by pianist, Marvel Steinhorst and vocalist, Kevin Siefering. Burial will take place at the Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Lind Family Funeral Home and continue one hour before the service.

Barbara Potratz was born August 21, 1913, in Avon, MN to Henry and Margaret (Schneider) Smith. She was baptized at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Avon, MN. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Omaha, NE in 1940. She attended Avon High School and worked at a variety of jobs before her marriage.

She married Arthur Zielsdorf on October 14, 1940 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Arthur was a career soldier in the Army. He and Barbara were stationed in Germany for two tours after World War II and at other military posts. After Arthur's retirement, they lived in Wisconsin and Montana before moving to Parkers Prairie where they were members of Peace Lutheran Church.

Arthur died in 1974. In 1980, Barbara and Albert Potratz were married, and they made their home in Parkers Prairie. Albert died in 1995.

Barbara lived a long and interesting life. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and her family. She often talked about raising Siberian husky dogs.

Barbara is survived by special nephew Ron Smith and special niece Joyce Smith, both from Duluth; four step-children: Norma (Marvin) Thor, Marco Island, FL; Donald Potratz, Parkers Prairie, MN; Edward (Janet) Potratz, New Hope, MN; Kathleen (Duane) Wienke, Bloomington, MN; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, special friends Viola Freudenberg, Celia Olson, Arlene Hemquist and John and Carol Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her brothers Raymond, George, Sylvester and Ambrose Smith; sisters Emily Steinmetz, Helen Smith and Loretta Peritz and step-daughter-in-law Kathryn Potratz.

Active pallbearers are Eric Thor, Gregg Potratz, Kenric Laabs, Kevin Siefering, John Potratz and John Meyer. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Smith, Dennis Klimek and Norman Nissen.
