Arlene Hemquist

Arlene J. M. Hemquist, age 90, of Parkers Prairie, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, surrounded by her family, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Rachel Stout officiating.  Music is provided by organist, Julie Lindgren and vocalists, John Kosse and Arlo Peterson.  Burial will take place at Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Parkers Prairie.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arlene Johanna Minnie was born March 23, 1927, to Fredrick and Mabel (Lehmkuhl) Moske in Oak Valley Township, Wadena.  She was baptized on March 24, 1927, and confirmed on August 18, 1940, by Rev. E. T. Meichsner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek.  Arlene was united in marriage to Carroll LeRoy Hemquist on April 1, 1945, at First Lutheran Church parsonage in Parkers Prairie by Rev. E. T. Peterson.  Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in Elmo Township.  She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of LCW, Rachel Circle and mutual ministry. Arlene worked at St. William’s Living Center for 12 years and School District #547, for 17 years.  She retired in 2004.  She loved her work at the school, and enjoyed gardening and reading. Arlene especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time they spent together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll; brother, Albert Moske in 1946; three sisters, Sylvia Stocker, Huldena Bonner and Ida Berg; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Kai Klimek in 1969, Michael Wendt in 1983, Briann Wendt in 1989, and Richard “Rick” Klimek in 2016; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arlene is survived by her two daughters, Maxine ”Mickey” (Dennis) Klimek of Parkers Prairie and Mary (Steven) Wendt of Osceola, Wisconsin; four sons, LeRoy “Swede” (Nora) Hemquist of Blaine, John (Cathe) Hemquist of Alexandria, Harris “Hank” (Sheri) Hemquist of Baxter, and Mark (fiancée, Jill Rasmusson) of Parkers Prairie; two brothers, Clarence Moske of Parkers Prairie and David Moske of St. Paul; sister, Donna Tervola of Billings, Montana; ten grandchildren, Daniel (Bobbi Ann) Klimek, Aaron (Andrea) Hemquist, Chad (Heather) Hemquist, Arik (Randi) Hemquist, Samantha Wendt, Ben Wendt, Sara (Patrick) Gobel, Christina (Ricky) Truax, Matthew Hemquist and Heidi (Jon) Ledman; 15 great-grandchildren, Katie Klimek, Danni Klimek, Braden Hemquist, Hannah Hemquist, Addison Hemquist, Stella Hemquist, Leo Goebel, Georgia Goebel, Holden Truax, Hudson Truax, Hattie Truax, Haizel Truax, Mason Ledman, Emmett Ledman and Alana Wendt; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Dan Klimek, Aaron Hemquist, Chad Hemquist, Arik Hemquist, Matt Hemquist and Ben Wendt.  Honorary pallbearers are Avis Larson, Lou Ann Anderson, John Schauland, Darcy Peppersack, Becky Revering, along with her school friends, and remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
