Andrew Aaron Struthers was born on January 3, 1984, in Dallas, Texas to Beth and Brad. Born with Spina Bifida, his parents were left to make a difficult decision to give him up for adoption. However, despite numerous health complications and countless surgeries, Andrew's journey proved to be nothing short of miraculous. Just seven weeks after his birth, he found a loving home with the Struthers Family, who officially adopted him one year later. He was baptized at home and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He attended the local public schools, successfully graduating in 2002. Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, he pursued higher education at Alexandria Technical College. Following his education, he worked for Productive Alternatives in Parkers Prairie and Alexandria. Despite life's challenges, he embraced independence, residing in an apartment at the Prairie Villages in Parkers Prairie. Devoted to his faith and community, Andrew actively served on the church council for a span of seven years. Additionally, he participated in the hymn selection committee and lent a helping hand in folding and stapling Sunday bulletins. He also participated in the dart ball league hosted by the church. Andy traveled with his family on various memorable trips to Florida, Alaska, Arizona (to witness the Grand Canyon), Washington, D.C., and Hershey, Pennsylvania. A passionate sports fan, he supported the Twins and Vikings, but truly his heart belonged to baseball. He enjoyed singing, visiting with people, volunteering at St. William’s Living Center, playing a variety of board games and jigsaw puzzles with residents. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and would often get out of his chair to join them on the floor. Above all, Andy lived a life that defied the odds, overcoming countless obstacles with resilience and grace. His unwavering spirit and unwavering dedication to community, family, and the things he loved serve as an inspiring example to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; and biological brother, Daniel.
Andy is survived by his parents, Lewis and Virginia “Ginger” (Rose) Struthers of Parkers Prairie; brothers, Sheldon (Stephanie) Struthers of Blaine and Steven (Katie) Struthers of Minneapolis; sisters, Martha (Asif) Husain of Denver, Colorado, Kaaren (Chris) St. George of Eden Prairie, and Maria (Matt) Bartlage of Princeton; 13 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
