Alton was born on January 20, 1955, to Lyle and Arlene (Cyrus) Worlie in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was baptized on March 13, 1955, at Augustana Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 17, 1970, at Lakeview Lutheran Church. He attended school in St. Paul before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and served in the Presidential Guard under President Richard Nixon. He served actively until he was injured and later placed in the reserves, receiving his honorable discharge in 1978. After his time in the military, Al attended Law Enforcement School in Hibbing. He returned to the Twin Cities area, where he worked in security throughout the region. In 1981, he came to Alexandria to attend Trucking School at Alexandria Technical College. While out at The Barn roadhouse, he met his future bride, Deb Kuhnau. The couple married on April 7, 1984, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona. They made their home in the Alexandria area before moving to Fridley in 1986 for Al’s work. On January 23, 1999, they moved to Cambridge, where they made their permanent home. Al drove truck over the road for many years and later transitioned to limo driving. During his quieter stretches on the road, he also worked in several special needs homes. He continued working until his health forced him to retire. Alton was a member of the American Legion in North Branch. He enjoyed fishing, collecting and shooting firearms, target practice with his friend “Moose,” watching NASCAR and attending races, smoking meat and experimenting with different wood varieties, and preparing his famous smoked macaroni and cheese and bacon wrapped “fatty”.
