Sharon Martinson

Sharon Marie Martinson, 71, of Alexandria, formerly of Benson, went to be with her Savior on November 16, 2017, surrounded by family.

Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2017, at Alexandria Covenant Church with Rev. John LeVahn officiating.  Music is provided by pianist, Keith Martinson.  Burial will take place at Pike Lake Cemetery in rural Kensington, following the luncheon.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sharon was born on February 20, 1946, in Litchfield, to Delmar and Iona (Knutson) Ricke and was the youngest of three children.  Sharon’s family moved to Benson in 1947, and she attended and graduated Benson Public Schools in 1964, where she was involved in music, playing the saxophone.  She attended Willmar Technical College in 1988-1989, for accounting. On March 6, 1964, Sharon married Robert Olson of Benson and together had four children.  After raising her children in Benson, she moved to Custer, South Dakota from 1998 – 2009, when she moved back to Minnesota and settled in Alexandria where she met the love of her life, Marvin Martinson.  They were married on February 11, 2012, in Alexandria.  Sharon worked as a bookkeeper at Benson Machine, Pamida, Culligan, Jennie-O Foods and Mount Rushmore KOA Campground.  She was very active in the Alexandria Covenant Church and thoroughly enjoyed her Koffee and Kare group outings.

Sharon truly believed that she was here on earth to serve the Lord and be an example for her children and all who met her.  She would send out a daily Bible study to a large email group. She loved spending time with her family.  She enjoyed camping all her life and looked forward to the annual Olson camping trips.  She loved raising Arabian horses and taking the family on trail rides. She spent hours at her desk working on her genealogy, sewing a handmade gift for a grandchild or on a quilt.  Anytime the weather would be nice, you could find Sharon and Marvin out for a drive in her Mustang convertible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Iona; step-mother Kirsten Ricke and granddaughter Michaela Olson.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Marvin Martinson of Alexandria; four children, Curtis (Heather) Olson and their children, Hannah and Nathan of Otsego; DuWayne (Robin) Olson and their children, Johnathan and Casey of St. Michael; Dawn (Greg) Anderson and their son, Justin of Willow River and Ryan (Jennifer) Olson and their children, Emma, Katlyn, Duane and Taylor of Alexandria; step-children Calvin Martinson and his children, Kristian and Emily of Alexandria; Keith (Jennifer) Martinson and their children, Judd, Jeremiah, Joseph and Jensen of Alexandria and Ken Martinson of Nashville; sister Carol (Theodore) Frood of Florida and Arnold (Viv) Ricke of Harris; and nieces and nephews.

Urnbearers are Jesse Ricke, Rob Deopre, Ronald Martinson and Jim Erickson.
