Catherine E. “Cathy” Slattery, age 71, of Miltona, formerly of New Brighton, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016, surrounded by family at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Fr. Steven Binsfeld officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will be held at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria following the service.

Catherine Eileen Slattery was born on April 1, 1945, to Richard and Genevieve (McInnis) Gersdorf in Minneapolis. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Cathy attended St. Charles Grade School and graduated from Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School. Following her education, she worked at Univac in Roseville in the Inspection and Soldering departments. Cathy was united in marriage to Jerry Slattery on May 25, 1968, at St. Charles Church in St. Anthony. Following their marriage, they lived in New Brighton where they raised three children. During their time in New Brighton, Jerry and Cathy built a home on Lake Miltona where they would spend most weekends. In 2004, they moved to a townhome in Circle Pines where they lived until they retired to Lake Miltona. For the past three years, Cathy worked in the kitchen at the Alexandria High School. Cathy enjoyed fishing, ice fishing as well as maintaining her yard and garden. She also enjoyed spending time outside and riding the four wheeler. Cathy loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Genevieve; and brother, Rick Gersdorf.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry; two sons, Scott (Karen) Slattery of Savage and Bryan (Sheila) Slattery of Rogers; daughter, Colleen (Darrick) Kaldun of Blaine; seven grandchildren, Brianna Slattery, Grant Slattery, Keelyn Slattery, Teagan Slattery, Breccan Slattery, Blaine Kaldun, and Brayden Kaldun; two sisters, Delores (Frank) Ganley and Carol (Larry) Lindfield; and many nieces and nephews.
