He attended Minneapolis public schools and graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1958. Following his education he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Allagash AU-97 on the east coast. Following an honorable discharge Bob returned to Minneapolis. He was united in marriage to Angela "Angie" Petersen September 27, 1960, in Minneapolis. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minneapolis where he worked for NAPA auto parts until he graduated from Carpentry Journeyman School in 1972. Following the completion of his education, he worked as a carpenter in Minneapolis and Grand Rapids. Bob and Angie moved to Alexandria in 1983, due to their purchase of the Andria Motel, which they owned and operated for ten years. Bob returned to work with auto parts first for Champion Auto and later at Lee Motors as parts manager until his retirement in 2008. Bob and Angie moved to Parkers Prairie in 2003, where they have made their home since. They enjoyed spending winters in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. He was a member of the Twin Cities Carpenters Union. He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Parkers Prairie Senior Center and the Parkers Prairie Elementary School Backpack program. Bob loved to go camping, fishing, trap shooting and hunting. He enjoyed going on long walks, NASCAR, Dirt Track Racing, word find books and jig saw puzzles. His family was the light of his life, and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with his wife in the porch with a fire going in the wood stove.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
