Betty J. Phillips, age 91, of Alexandria, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at Sharon’s Senior Services Assisted Living in Alexandria.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016, at New Testament Church in Alexandria  with Pastors Rick Martin and Travis Linn officiating.  Music is provided by organist, Karen Phillips and vocalist, Mel Thoen.  Burial is at Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., and conclude with a prayer service at 8 p.m., Friday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria.  The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty Jeannelle Phillips was born on August 6, 1924, to Clay and Venice (Lee) Main in Bowling Green, Ohio.  She grew up on a farm near Tontogany and graduated as Salutatorian from Tontogany High School in 1942.  Following her education, she worked in local industry during the war time.  She met Glen A. Phillips on a blind date and was united in marriage to him on May 22, 1948, at Plain Congregation Church, Bowling Green.  Following their marriage they lived in rural Wood County in Ohio prior to moving to the Brandon/Millerville area in July of 1974.  Betty was a homemaker, mother and grandmother and loved to share her gift of hospitality to all who entered her home.  Her husband, Glen died in 1987.  Betty moved to Alexandria in 1991.  She was a member of Alexandria First Free Methodist. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and scrap booking. She was an avid card player and animal lover. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Letha (John) Kazmaier; brothers, Bob Main and Ross (Kate) Main; and great-grandson, Isaac Matthew Jackob.

Betty is survived by her son, Mike (Dawn) Phillips of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Kathy “Susie” (Gus) Burkholder of Alexandria and Alice (Larry) Christianson of Miltona; 11 grandchildren, Justin (Karen) Phillips of Rothsay, Becky (Travis) Linn of Moorhead, Krista Phillips of Thief River Falls, Gary (Christin) Burkholder of Guam, Scott (Jennifer) Burkholder of Baltimore, Maryland, Beth (Ian) Wangson of Taiwan, Tara (Loren) DeNooy of Sioux Center, Iowa, Marie (Amos) Jackob of Mbeya, Tanzania, Lance (Rachel) Christianson of Carlos, Glen (Christine) Christianson of Sebeka, and Jonas (Ana) Christianson of Miltona; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are her grandchildren.
