LeRoy F. Turchin, age 69, of Parkers Prairie, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Memorial services are 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich and musician, David Koep.

Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the church.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Henning.


LeRoy Frank Turchin was born February 9, 1945, to Joseph and Rosie (Schecher) Turchin in Parkers Prairie. He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith. LeRoy attended many country schools before he graduated from the 8th grade in Vining. He also attended Detroit Lakes Technical College and earned a Diesel Truck Mechanics degree May 1974. He was united in marriage to Deloris Snook August 9, 1968, in Battle Lake. After his marriage he worked in construction, drove truck and worked for various farmers. His most recent job was working for Bowman's Grating & Gravel until 2003, when he suffered a stroke causing him to retire. During his retirement he ran the card shack in the back of Deloris's shop called Parkers Beauty and Tanning Card Club. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and spending quality time with his great-grandchildren, who were his everything.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Beatrice Lyson, Angeline Berkland and Helen Larson; brother, Joseph Turchin; grandson, Christopher Hess; five nephews, Lawrence Berkland, Donnie Becker, Willis Husfeldt, Kent Snook and David Snook; and sister-in-law, Elsie Husfeldt.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deloris; five children, Scott (Ronni) Turchin, Lorrie (Edward Griffin) Turchin both of Parkers Prairie, Karen Hess of Irmo, South Carolina, Helen Husfeldt of Henning and Grace (Steven) Gruber of Jeffers; two sisters, Rose (Lester) McLaughlin of Andover and Viola Becker of Clitherall; nine grandchildren, Robin Turchin, Kristin Hammack, Carly Turchin, Jacqueline Turchin, Colin (Shondel) Turchin, Amber (Jonathan) Andrews, John Gruber and Allison Gruber; five great-grandchildren, Bayley Roper, Averyana Hammack, Elliana Hammack, Brayden Andrews and Mason Andrews; four brothers-in-law, Carl Snook, Kenny Snook, Leland Snook and George Snook; sister-in-law, JoAnn Turchin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Urnbearer is his godson, Russell "Hoot" Becker. Honorary urnbearers are Gaylord Larson, Donnie Berg, Mark Schulke, Norman Schulke, Tim Bowman, Romaine Stephan, Denny Klimek and Marty Vanderbush.
