Fern Griese

Fern E. Griese, age 92, of Miltona, was called to her eternal resting place on Sunday, March 27, 2016.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2016, at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona with Rev. Terry Finnern officiating. Music is provided by organist, Deb Joachim and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Burial is at Mt Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Sunday at Lind Family Funeral Home in Miltona and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Fern Edith Griese was born February 13, 1924, to Henry and Helen (Ullman) Larson in Fergus Falls. Her family moved to a farm by Almora where she attended public school through the eighth grade. She attended high school in Henning and Fergus Falls. She was united in marriage to Lloyal Drexler on February 1, 1942, at Norcross, Minnesota. They lived in Long Beach, California and Fergus Falls until 1949, when they moved to Miltona. She owned and operated the Miltona Produce from 1950-1958. She was united in marriage to Lewis Griese in Webster, South Dakota. She worked various jobs in and around Miltona, the last was the Miltona Post Office, from which she retired. Fern was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed in April of 1955. She was also a member of the Miltona VFW Auxiliary Post #7826. She had a large garden with lots of flowers. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing, golfing, and making quilts and rugs for her children and grandchildren. She looked forward each day to go to 10 a.m., coffee to shake dice and catch up on the news in Miltona with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; sister; granddaughter, Sharilyn; son-in-law, Jimmy Peterson; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Drexler.

Fern is survived by her husband, Lewis; sons, Frank Drexler of Isanti and Walter (Julie) Drexler of Alexandria; daughters, Sharon Peterson of Braham and Cathy (Donald) Grothen of Parkers Prairie; brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Larson of Battle Lake; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Chad Spindler, Nate Bahl, Troy Lustig, Steve Ranalls, Jeff Koep, and Dave Luedke.
